European football: Why it is 'highly unlikely' English teams will be banned

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin says there is no chance of English clubs being banned from European competition.

The comments come after FIFA president Gianni Infantino suggested that English clubs could be banned from UEFA competitions if they join a breakaway European Super League.

Ceferin said that UEFA is "united" in its opposition to the Super League.

"We are all united against this nonsense of a Super League," Ceferin said. "We will not allow this to happen. It is a closed shop. It is a cartel. It is against the principles of football."

His comments were echoed by UEFA general secretary Theodore Theodoridis, who said that the Super League is "a threat to the entire European football pyramid."

"We will not allow this to happen," Theodoridis said. "We will fight this with all our might."

The Super League is a proposed new football competition that would be played by 20 of Europe's top clubs. The competition would be closed, meaning that clubs would not be able to qualify for it based on their performance on the field.

The Super League has been met with widespread opposition from football fans, players, and administrators. FIFA and UEFA have both said that they will not recognize the competition.

It is highly unlikely that English clubs will be banned from European competition, even if they join the Super League.

UEFA is the governing body of European football, and it has the power to ban clubs from its competitions. However, UEFA is unlikely to do this because it would damage its own revenue streams.

UEFA generates a significant amount of revenue from its club competitions, such as the Champions League and the Europa League. If English clubs were banned from these competitions, UEFA would lose a significant amount of money.

In addition, a ban on English clubs would likely lead to a reduction in the quality of European football competitions. English clubs are some of the best in the world, and their absence would make the Champions League and the Europa League less competitive.

For these reasons, it is highly unlikely that UEFA will ban English clubs from European competition, even if they join the Super League.
